Shame on Poetry.com
December 5th, 2006 by guide
I received in the mail today a notice that my poem had received the Editor’s Choice Award at poetry.com.
Now, consider that the poem I submitted took me about 1 minute to write and I did it as to receive points for one of the PTC/PTP sites.
The poem, in a word, SUCKS. Don’t believe me? Here is the poem:
Love is kind;
Love is wanting;
Love is scarce;
Love is hunting;
Love is what we are all looking for.
What you love is what you are.
As I said, I wrote something to submit because I would receive points. I do not consider that anything but a joke. Why did I receive the “editor’s choice” award? Because it was really a means to get me to BUY three CD set for $49.00 plus $8 shipping.
This is a scam, one that I’m sure many people fall for because it is so very hard to get acknowledged as a writer or poet.
But they are simply trying to make money off people by using compliments.
Obviously, because that poem sucks!

I thought I would add this as a comment rather than a new post.
Victoria Strauss has had a similiar experience with poetry.com. She lists it on her website:

See, its not just me!
