Free Survey Companies
A - C
I'd like to remind you that all of these links should be to free surveys. If they are not, please let me know. I tried to check them out before hand but I may have missed something. They are listed in alphabetical order and all links will pop up in a new window.
Codes: BBB = Better Business Bureau; AMA = American Marketing Association; ARF = Advertising Research Foundation; CASRO = Council of American Survey Research Organizations;
MRA = Marketing Research Association.
2102 Cambridge Beltway Dr., Ste B, Charlotte, NC 28273-3373
They state they will pay $50-150 per focus group. They have been members of the Better Business Bureau since November 1998 with a satisfactory record. Their website is proffesional, address and information is clearly displayed and everything is upfront. They are also members of the AMA and MRA.
875 N. Michigan Avenue, Suite 3260, Chicago, IL 60611
Executive Offices: 6500 N. Lincoln Ave, Lincolnwood, IL 60712
They are AMA members. They do not give any specific information about compensation except that "Those attending focus groups at any of our locations are compensated for their time." They are not members of the BBB and have not responded to the BBB request for more information about their company.
Alan Newman Research
1025 Boulders Pkwy., Ste. 401, Richmond, VA 23225
I could not find them listed in the BBB, but they are members of ANR and MRA. Their address and contact information is clearly listed on their site. They say they "usually pay participants" and that participants "usually receive a cash payment as a token of appreciation."
American Consumer Opinion
AKA: Decision Analyst, Inc.
604 Avenue H East, Arlington, TX 76011
They have been a member of BBB since May 2004. Contact information is clearly listed on their site. According to them, "if you participate in a survey you will always receive some type of incentive (a free product to test, cash, a check, or a gift). Incentives typically range in value from $4 to $50, per survey or focus group, depending upon the length of the questionnaire and the time it takes to complete it. . . . Participants in online focus groups generally receive more than $25." I am an affiliate of them, so here is the direct link: American Consumer Opinion
2121 Ponce De Leon Blvd, Suite #230, Coral Gables, FL 33134
I could not find them listed in the BBB, but they are members of the AMA and MRA. They state that they will never try to sell you anything and that you will always be paid for your time. No mention of amounts. I am not positive, but it does not seem like you must live in the Miami area to be listed in their database.
Ask Southern California
12437 Lewis Street, Suite 100, Garden Grove, CA 92840
They are not members but have a satisfactory record with the BBB and they are members of the AMA. They only accept possible participants from the Southern California area only.
Others need not apply.
Atkins Research Group, Inc.
4929 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 102, Los Angeles, CA 90010

They have been a member of the Better Business Bureau since July 2005. They are also members of the AMA. They specialize in the Baltimore, Maryland, Washington, D.C. & Northern Virginia markets (so people living in other areas may not be welcome). They also state they you can earn 50.00 - $100.00 (paid in cash) for your opinions.
The Bartlett Group
3690 Vartan Way, Harrisburg, PA, 17110
(800)555-9590 or (717) 540-9900
They state you need to call to become a member of their Research Panel. There is no mention of compensation. They are not members but have a satisfactory record with the BBB and they are members of the AMA and MRA.
Begin Survey Company
34 Sunset Drive, Suite B-2, Clementon, NJ 08021
(888) 601-8673 ext. 201
I could not find them listed in the BBB, nor are they members of the MRA or AMA that I could find. Contact information is clearly listed on their site and, while they make claims of paying you for surveys, they do not mention amount. The website as a whole does not seem professional and I would urge caution when dealing with them.
Box 7757, Greenwich, CT 06830
No phone number listed
I could not find them listed in the BBB and they are not members of the AMA, MRA, or CASRO. They claim that you have the chance to win cash and prizes as well as earn money for your time. However, their lack of a street address, phone number and any professional affiliations make me cautious about giving my personal information to them.
Bernett Research Services
World Trade Center East, Two Seaport Lane, Boston, MA 02210
They are not members but have a satisfactory record with the BBB and they are members of the AMA and CASRO. There phone number and address is different with the BBB than what is listed on their website. They only do focus groups in the Boston area and there is no mention of compensation.
Beta Research Panel
6400 Jericho Turnpike, Syosset, NY 11791
They are members of the BBB under the name Beta Research Corp and the MRA lists their website as being http://www.NYBeta.com. They state that every time you fill you fill out a survey you'll also receive a special "thank you" gift but do not mention what the gift will be (probably a sweepstakes entrance).
Blarry House Research
580 Douglass Street, San Francisco, CA 94114-2759
They do teleconferences and focus groups but not online surveys. They are could not be found in the BBB and they are not members of AMA, CASRO, MRA or ARF. They do clearly list their contact information. They state that "participants are generally paid between $40 and $150" and "a typical focus group lasts no longer than two hours." Either way, "you will be told in advance what to expect in terms of time, commitment and compensation when you are invited to join the session."
Boulder Focus Center
4940 Pearl East Circle, Suite 103, Boulder, Colorado 80301
(303) 449-6558 ext. 123
They have a nice website with contact information clearly listed. I could not find them listed in the BBB and they are not members of the AMA. They do seem to allow panelist from outside boulder area but don't mention anything about compensation.
200 S.E. 1 Street, 12th Floor, Miami, FL 33131
I could not find them listed in the BBB, but have no complaints listed with them. They are not members of the AMA, MRA or CASRO. I did decide to join up and they immediately asked me if I wanted to pay with paypal (optional) and asked for the email address associated with it. They also
asked me for my social security number stating that "Please note that federal law requires us to collect Social Security numbers from all participants with mailing addresses in the United States prior to payment for surveys. Due to privacy concerns, we do not ask for this information until you complete a survey for Brand Institute." I had yet to even receive an offer for a survey and yet they were asking for it. Also, I have received emails from them asking me to refer my friends (although there is not an affiliate program). I don't SPAM my friends! Also, the government only requires this if payment exceeds $600. I did not give it to them and am in the midst of contacting them as to why they are doing this (and no other survey company has). However, they did have a very professional looking website with lots of contact information visible.
Business Research Lab
8558 Katy Freeway, Suite 101,Houston, TX 77024
(866) 960-9824 or (713) 467-6619
I could not find them listed in the BBB and they are not members of the CASRO or MRA. They state they offer incentives for survey participation but often the incentive is a drawing where they randomly give away prizes to survey participants. It is a professional looking site with lots of contact information visible.
6 East 39th Street, 8th Floor, New York, NY 10016
(646) 519-8010 or (800) 481-0878
They are not members but have a satisfactory record with the BBB and they are members of AMA, ESOMAR, CASRO, and ARF. They state that they provide sweepstakes, gift certificates and cash for studies with additional compensation if you are invited back to a more in-depth session. Contact information is easily found on their professional looking website.
222 W. Huron, Suite 4001, Chicago, IL 60610
They claim that they will reward you as "often as [they] can." In other words, not every time. They also state that it will either be an entry into a quarterly sweepstakes or "BuzzSponge Points" which can be redeemed for Amazon gift certificates. I could not find them listed in the BBB and they are not members of the AMA, MRA or CASRO. Also, their contact information was listed buried at the bottom of their terms and conditions rather than being readily listed on their site.
C & C Market
1200 South Waldron Rd. #138, Fort Smith, AR 72903
C & C Market Research has nationwide coverage
with 26 mall locations and 8 focus facilities. Only two of this company's locations were listed in the BBB, neither had sufficient information for the BBB to give a recommendation. They are members of the AMA and MRA. They state that they conduct surveys and focus groups on a host of goods and services but do not mention compensation. Contact information was easily found.
C & R Research
500 N. Michigan Avenue, Suite 1331, Chicago, IL 60611
They have been a member of the Better Business Bureau since March 2006. They are also members of AMA. They have three specific survey groups:
- Kidzeyes: an online panel of U.S. kids ages 6 to 12,
- Teenseyes: an online panel for 13 to 17 year olds, and
- Latinoeyes: an online panel for adult Latinos residing in the United States.
Both the Kidzeyes and Teeneyes sites rewarded surveys by giving points that could be redeemed for money once they had achieved 1000 points ($10). I am not sure how the Latinoeyes program worked because the page was all in Spanish. Kids must have parents permission to join.
Chamberlain Research Consultants
710 John Nolen Dr., Madison, WI 53713
They have been a member of the Better Business Bureau since October 1995. They are also members of the AMA and MRA. They state that you will typically receive between $20 to $50 for each study you participate in.
1776 Broadway, Suite 1000, New York, NY 10019
They have an okay site with their numbers clearly listed. However, their panels are by invitation only and you must be a member of a Fortune 500 company to join.
7760 France Ave South, Suite 820, Bloomington, MN 55435
They have been a member of the Better Business Bureau since October 2002 with a satisfactory record and are members of CASRO. They have a professional looking site with contact information clearly listed.
They are part of Your 2 Cents. Please see that entry for more information.
They are part of Vente, Inc. Please see that entry for more information.
4928 S. 79th E. Ave., Fontana Center, Tulsa, OK 74145
(918) 665-3311 or (800) 544-1494
According to their website, "Consumer Logic conducts a wide variety of in-person research projects around the country, for which we pay participants for their opinions on products and services. In addition, we conduct online surveys that include sweepstakes drawings for cash prizes." In other words, you only get paid if for the in-person studies. This company has been a member of this Better Business Bureau since May 1992. They are also members of the AMA and MRA.
No address listed
No phone number listed
They claim that "after most
of their surveys you will have an opportunity to enter one of [their] many sweepstakes for a chance to win cash" and that "some surveys offer outright cash and/or merchandise incentives." I was not impressed by their all caps or multiple exclamation marks. Also, I could not find them listed in the BBB and they are not members of the AMA, MRA, or CASRO. There was no address or contact information on their site. Also, their site seemed very amateur. I know, you're saying who am I to judge? Well, I'm not a business and I'm not asking for your personal information, am I? One final note, they should not be confused with another Consumer Opinions, which is located in St. Louis, MO, and does not offer online surveys. They did list an address for a "sponsor" but no phone number was given.
Consumer Opinion Services
12825 1st Ave South, Seattle, WA 98168
They have been a member of the Better Business Bureau since November 1982. They are also members of the MRA and AMA. They state that they will "call you" if you are selected to participate and that you will be "compensated for your time" if you participate in a focus group study. In other words, its an in-person type job.
AKA: Solomon Wolff Associates
174 Laurel Hill Rd., Mountain Lakes, NJ 07046
I could not find them listed in the BBB and they are not members of the AMA, MRA, or CASRO. Again, the website had an amateur feel to it although the contact information was clearly listed. They state that when you are invited to complete a questionnaire, you will be told what the "token payment or gift will be" and that "typically, participants will receive a check for $5 or perhaps coupons worth $5 or more on the client's products. In some situations, participants may receive larger payments." I have the suspicious that the payments lay on the side of coupons versus cash, but have had no direct dealings with them.
CQS Research Inc
2500 West Loop South, Ste. 300, Houston, Tx. 77027
(713) 783-9111 or (800) 460-9111
I could not find them listed in the BBB and they are not members of the AMA, MRA, or CASRO. They had an okay website with contact information clearly listed. They stated that they would "compensate you for your time in the form of cash, gift, or donations to your favorite charity."
