Free Survey Companies

Q - S

I'd like to remind you that all of these links should be to free surveys. If they are not, please let me know. I tried to check them out before hand but I may have missed something. They are listed in alphabetical order and all links will pop up in a new window.

Codes: BBB = Better Business Bureau; AMA = American Marketing Association; ARF = Advertising Research Foundation; CASRO = Council of American Survey Research Organizations; MRA = Marketing Research Association.

Q & A Research
AKA: Hispanic Perspectives
64 Digital Dr., Novato, CA 94949
(415) 883-1188
Comments: They are not members but have a satisfactory record with the BBB and are members of AMA and MRA. They stat that they offer studies which include "one-on-one interviews, group discussions, telephone surveys and online/web surveys" and "all projects offer an honorarium for your time, ranging from $30 - $250." Contact information was very visible and the site is very professional. If you sign up, please mention my site. As far as I know, the only thing I'll get is a warm fuzzy feeling from it--but I do like to be noticed.

QStation
No address listed
No phone number listed
Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB and they are not members of the AMA, MRA, ARF, or CASRO. The site was totally lacking on information--such as an address and phone number. I believe, but am not positive, that they are part of Atypica because that's where the contact email was headed. All they mention about the surveys is "if you qualify for one or more of our surveys, you will be notified via email of the nature and incentive offer of the survey." There is no privacy information or assurance that they won't sell this information to third-parties. I would not recommend signing up with them.

Quality Health
AKA: Marketing Technology Solutions Inc.
510 Thornall Street, Suite 130, Edison, NJ 08837-2204
(732) 452-9797
Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB and they are not members of the AMA, MRA, ARF, or CASRO. Their site was sort of a cross between sponsored offers and advertisements and legitimate articles and support groups. Their address and phone number was only available on their MTS corporate site, but the links were easily found on all their pages. I feel safe to recommend their site, but I would use absolute caution before agreeing to anything advertised on it.

Question Market
AKA: Dynamic Logic, Ad Index Network,
75 Maiden Lane, Floor 5 New York, NY 10038
(212) 402-5466
Comments: They are members of the BBB and of CASRO. However, the last time I checked they had closed their panel to new members. Just as well since what their terms and rewards were not clearly stated. Nor was their contact information very visible (only on the BBB site).

Restaurant Poll.Com
AKA: Sandelman & Associates
257 La Paloma, Suite 1, San Clemente, CA 92672
No phone number listed
Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB and they are not members of the AMA, MRA, or CASRO. This site will give you one sweepstakes entrance for every poll you receive. They only drawing they have is monthly for $500. Pretty skimpy.

Savitz Research Companies
AKA: Savitz Field and Focus
5757 Century Blvd Suite 360, Los Angeles, CA 90045
(310) 642-4799
Comments: They are not members but have a satisfactory record with the BBB and are members of CASRO, MRA and AMA. Their site is pretty bad with no contact information on it. However their main site at Savitz Field and Focus is very nice and lists the information very clearly. This is one of the few times I will say that despite the bad site, don't necessarily discount this company.

Shifrin Hayworth
20300 Civic Center Drive, Suite 207, Southfield, MI 48076
(248) 223-0020
Comments: This company has been a member of this Better Business Bureau since July 1998 and are members of the MRA. They state that they do "one-on-one interviews, telephone interviews and focus groups" and that "studies typically last from 30 minutes to three hours and pay anywhere from $50 to $250 depending on the client, length and topic." If you decide to join, I would make sure you know how much and what format the payment is coming before you invest any time.

Shoppers Hotline
150 N. Clinton, Chicago, IL 60661-7785
(312) 474-3128
Comments: This company has been a member of this Better Business Bureau since February 2006 but are not members of CASRO, AMA, or MRA. They state that you can earn "points toward a wide selection of great gift certificates to places like Blockbuster Video, Best Buy, and Target" and are automatically entered into their sweepstakes. However, they are lacking a lot of the privacy information and finer details that the more reliable sites have. I would use extreme caution when dealing with them.

Song People
AKA: Entertainment Media Research
Studio 1, Charter House, London, WC2B 5EX, UK
No phone number listed
Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB and they are not members of the AMA, MRA, or CASRO. I am not totally sure about this company. Either it is a total waste of time (unless you really like music and don't care to be rewarded for giving your opinion) or it is a scam trying to rope people into signing up for other offers by offering them the chance of winning prizes. Either way, they don't give enough information for me to risk signing up and finding out.

SpectraCom
131 W. Seeboth St., Milwaukee, WI 53204
(414) 272-7742
Comments: There was not enough information in the BBB for them to receive any rating, not to mention that there was a different address listed on their site than with the BBB. They are not members of CASRO, AMA or MRA either. They have a good website with their contact information readily available, but not much about how they compensate people for their work. Use caution.

Speedback
18255 Bollinger Canyon Road, San Ramon, CA 94583
(415) 242-5202
Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB and they are not members of the AMA, MRA, or CASRO. They state that "incentives are sent two weeks after the close of a project" which is faster than most other companies. Their phone number was sort of hidden on their site, and their promises are rather vague in nature. The lack of professional membership bothers me, but I do feel this company may be legitimate. Use your own judgment.

Spider Metrix
No address listed
No phone number listed
Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB and they are not members of the AMA, MRA, or CASRO. Not only was there a total lack of information on this site, they kept talking about "spider points" which were redeemable for cash. However, if you read the details (which I do) it says you are limited to one entry per 24 hour period and you may only earn a maximum of 2 points per week." Unless these spider points are really valuable (like $1 each) you could be waiting a long time before you see a pay off. Best to skip it.

Sporting Insights
The Courtyard, Wisley, Surrey, GU23 6QL, UK
Telephone: +44 (0) 1932 350600
Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB and they are not members of the AMA, MRA, or CASRO. The first thing I noticed about this site was it's main page was titled "Untiled Document" (amateur mistake). They did clearly list their contact information but that's it. Nothing as far as privacy policies or the other legal stuff. Also, all you get for your work is "the chance to win . . . prizes." It also appears that all prizes have a sports theme to them. Might be a good deal for a sports enthusiast, but use caution.

Survey Cafe
55 Railroad Row, White River Junction, Vermont 05001
(888) 774-5987 or (802) 295-4999
Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB and they are not members of the AMA, MRA, or CASRO. Despite that, they had a very professional site and made their contact information easy to find. They state that "you will be selected to participate in surveys ranging from 10 to 30 minutes in length. You will learn how your responses compare to other panel members who participate in our studies and for each study you complete, you will earn real incentives, not just points or a chance to win something."

Survey Center
455 East Illinois St., Ste. 660, Chicago, IL 60611
(312) 321-8100
Comments: They are not members but have a satisfactory record with the BBB and are members of MRA. Their contact information is available and easy to find, although their site was pretty basic. They state that they offer "a monetary reward" for most surveys and when this is offered, "the amount and eligibility requirements are stated in the e-mail message used to invite survey participants." Checks are mailed about thirty days after the study is closed (so it may take two months before you get paid).

Survey.com
1245 S. Winchester Blvd., Suite 200, San Jose, CA 95128
(408) 850-1227
Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB and they are not members of the AMA, MRA, or CASRO. This is another company that offers you "the chance to win some great prizes" for answering surveys. The site was professional and the contact information easy to find.

Survey Complete
Comments: This is actually a part of Greenfield Online. Please see their entrance for more information.

Survey Network
Comments: They are part of Vente, Inc. Please see that entry for more information.

Surveys Online
One Research Center, Marion, IA 52302
(800) 362-2554
Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB and they are not members of the AMA, MRA, or CASRO. Apparently, you get a chance to win a prize by completeing their 10-20 minute surveys. But they 'limit the number of studies an individual will participate in to 1-3 per month. Other than that, the site was nice and contact information easy to find.

Study Response
No address listed
No phone number listed
Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB and they are not members of the AMA, MRA, or CASRO. They say they offer a variety of incentives but then clarify by adding that "In general, projects enter participants into a drawing for one of several electronic gift certificates to Amazon ranging in value from $50 to $250." However, in their "small sample of recent winners" only 5 of the 15 were larger than $50 with the largest being $90 and 9 of the 15 were less that $50. The fact that they make misleading statements like that cause me to advise staying away from them. They may be associated with Syracuse University, but it isn't clear.

Survey Savvy
AKA: Luth Research 1365 Fourth Ave, San Diego, CA 92101
(888) 588-4258
Comments: They are members of the BBB and also members of CASRO, ARF, AMA and MRA under the name Luth Research. The address wasn't available until you went to the Luth Research or BBB site. I am an affiliate of Survey Savvy which means I get paid about a dollar for every survey one of my referral completes. Of course, the person taking the survey gets an average of $3.00. Not a lot but it's cash and not points. The nice thing is that they also have a sweepstakes and you're entered even if you don't qualify for the survey. I am an affiliate, so research it for yourself. If you find I was inaccurate and don't wish to give me credit for referring you, the here's the direct web link to Survey Savvy.

SurveySite
90 Sheppard Ave. E., Suite 100, Toronto, Ontario M2N 3A1 Canada
(866) 642-1002 or (416) 642-1002
Comments: SurveySite has now teamed with OpinionSquare and will only be accepting new memberships through our partnership with OpinionSquare. Please see my listing on OpinionSquare for more information about them.

Survey Spot
One Post Road, Fairfield, CT 06824
(203) 255-4200
Comments: They are members of the BBB and are members of CASRO, AMA, ARF, and MRA. I joined about a month ago and receive quite a few surveys a week (about 6-7). I rarely qualify for the survey because it's already had its fill of demographics, but they do give you an entry to their sweepstakes even if you don't qualify. They do tell you what you will earn in advance and tell you how long the survey is before you begin. Their site leans a little towards the unprofessional side and their contact information is difficult to find. Use your own judgment.

Synovate Global Opinion Panels
AKA: eMarkets Research,
P.O. Box 5030, Chicago, IL 60606
(800) 745-4267 or (312) 526-4000
Comments: I got mixed results from the BBB on Synovate. Apparently, they have an unsatisfactory rating in Illinois but are members in California. However, they are members of CASRO and AMA. This is a very large company with offices all over the world. They state that they ward over 200 panelists each month. However, 3/4 of those prizes are for $10. Use your own judgment if you think it would be worth it to join. They only listed a P.O. box on their site and it was well hidden at the bottom of the legal mumbo jumbo.
